Itinerary

 

Day 1: Arrival in Tashkent

Arrival in Tashkent. Meeting with driver, transfer to the hotel. Check-in at the hotel. Short rest. Meeting with your guide to start sightseeing in the capital of Uzbekistan, the biggest city in Central Asia. The first day, you will visit part of Tashkent old city with Hast Imom Complex where world famous Koran of Khalif Uthman- Osman is preserved. In Hast-Imom visit Barak-Khan Madrasah, Tilla Sheikh Mosque, Mausoleum of Saint Abu Bakr Kaffal Shashi and Islamic Institute of Imam al-Bukhari. Explore Chor-Su Bazaar. Then take the Tashkent Metro to the city center with the square. Hotel accommodation.

Day 2: Tashkent – Samarkand

At 07:00 am transfer from the hotel to the railway station. Fast train “Afrosiyob” departs from Tashkent at 08:00 and arrives in Samarkand at 10:10 (300 km). Your guide and driver will meet you at the train station to begin the tour of Samarkand. This day you will visit the impressive Registan Square, remains of Bibi Khanum Mosque, Siyob bazaar, Ulugbek Observatory, Shahi Zinda Necropolis and Gur Emir Mausoleum, the original tomb of Tamerlane. Day 3: Samarkand

After breakfast continue sightseeing: visit Afrasiab Museum and St. Daniel’s Tomb. Then a trip to Koni Gil village for an introduction to the traditional way of making Samarkand paper from mulberry trees.

Day 4: Samarkand – Bukhara

Departure from Samarkand in the morning and drive to Bukhara (280 km, 4-5 hours). On the way stop at Rabati-Malik caravanserai. Continuing to Bukhara. Arrival in Bukhara, check in at the hotel.

Spend the afternoon in charming Old Bukhara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore Kalyan Minaret, Kalyan Mosque and Miri-Arab Madrassah, Magoki-Attori Mosque, Ulugbek and Abdulazizkhan Madrassah, trading domes, Lyabi Haus Ensemble, Chor-Minor Madrassah.

Day 5: Bukhara

After breakfast continue city tour in Bukhara with sightseeing of Ark Fortress, Bolo-Hauz Mosque, Mausoleums of Samani Dynasty and Chashma-Ayub. Then visit Sitorai-Mohihosa – summer residence of the last Emir of Bukhara, a unique site combining Eastern and Russian architecture. Continue to visit Bahautdin Naqshbandi Mausoleum. Enjoy your free time in the afternoon. Hotel accommodation.

Day 6: Bukhara – Khiva

Departure from Bukhara in the morning and transfer to Khiva (480 km, 7-8 hours*). The Great Silk Road once ran through Bukhara and Khiva through the Kyzylkum Desert, just like the present day road.  Along the way, stop to enjoy views of the desert and the Amu Darya River.

Arrival in Khiva late afternoon, check in at hotel. Hotel check-in.

Day 7: Khiva – Urgench – Tashkent

Departure from hotel at 12:00. This day you will visit Ichan-Kala Fortress, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The excursion includes visits to Muhammad Amin Khan Madrassah, Muhammad Rahimkhan Madrassah, Kalta Minor, Juma Mosque, Toshowli Palace, Pahlavan Mahmud Mausoleum. Try your hand at climbing the Islom Khoja Minaret, the highest minaret in Uzbekistan. Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Old Khiva at Kunya Ark. In the evening transfer to Urgench airport (30 km, 35 min) for flight to Tashkent (1093 km, 1hr 40 min). On arrival, transfer to the hotel. Accommodation at the hotel.

Day 8: Tashkent – Almaty

Departure from hotel at noon. Free time before transfer to the international airport in Tashkent. Flight to Almaty. Meeting with driver and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation in the hotel.

Day 9: Almaty – Big Almatinsky Gorge – Almaty

On this day you will visit the Big Almaty Gorge, where the Big Almaty Lake, one of the most picturesque lakes in Zailiyskiy Alatau, is located at the altitude of 2,510 m above sea level. The lake is very beautiful, especially when its blue glassy surface is absolutely calm, and the sky and the surrounding mountains are reflected in it. The Big Almaty Lake was formed as a result of the movement of an ancient glacier. Due to its high-mountainous location the water in the lake is always cool – even in July the water temperature doesn’t exceed 10 degrees Celsius.

The lake is the source of drinking water for the city of Almaty, so the access of tourists to the lake is limited. The route of the tour lies above the Great Almaty Lake at an altitude of 3,300 meters above sea level.

Day 10: Almaty

Breakfast at the hotel.

At 10:00 a.m. you will start a sightseeing tour of the central part of Almaty. You will learn more about the history and development of the southern capital of Kazakhstan and see its main attractions. You will visit a popular place among the citizens, the Green Bazaar, where it is impossible to resist shopping. This is a great chance to plunge into the atmosphere of a real Oriental bazaar, its colors, smells and crowds. Here you can buy the famous oriental sweets, but don’t forget to haggle…

Then the tour will continue in one of the oldest parks of Almaty – Panfilov Park, where one of the most beautiful wooden buildings in the world – Zenkovsky Cathedral is located. You will also visit the Memorial of Glory and the Eternal Flame dedicated to the memory of the fighters who died for the country’s freedom and independence.

After touring the sports, cultural and business districts of the city, you will get to Medeo Gorge, famous for the highest skating rink in the world and the dam that protects the city from dangerous mudflows.

Your next destination is the Kok-Tobe hill, where the highest TV tower in the world is located (if you count from sea level) and where you will get by the picturesque winding mountain road. In the Kok-Tobe Park you can stroll along the winding paths of the park, admire the magnificent panorama of the city from a special observation deck and visit the national souvenir store. The tour ends with a short ascent from the top of the hill to the center of the city by the famous Almaty ropeway.
